75 Mile Beach, Fraser Island

When it comes to backpacking Australia, we understand your time is limited and although we may favour this little slice of heaven, sometimes all you have is 2 days to explore Fraser Island. So pack your bags, have your camera’s ready and crank up those holiday vibes, because this 48-hour itinerary is about to blow your socks off!

DAY 1

Hit The Sand and Begin Your Adventure Four-Wheel Driving

Palace Adventures 4WDs

On Fraser Island, four-wheel drives are mandatory and the only way (other than foot) to make your way around the island. If you have never driven a four-wheel drive before, doing a Fraser Island tour, such as Palace Adventures, is perfect as you will learn first hand how to manoeuvre a vehicle on the sand. And if in the end you decide driving isn’t for you, you can simply jump in the passenger's seat!

Check Out the Maheno Shipwreck

Maheno Shipwreck, Fraser Island

Located on 75 Mile Beach, when you're cruising along the sandy highway you will come to the famous Maheno Shipwreck. Beached since 1935, this beauty of a ship has naturally become apart of the islands history.

Go for A Dip in The Champagne Pools

After catching the barge over, zooming around the island in your four-wheel drive and exploring the wreck, it’s time to relax and what better place to do that than Fraser Island's natural jacuzzi!

Soak Up the Scenery at Indian Head

Indian Head, Fraser Island

After your dip, dry off and make your way up 75 Mile Beach to your final stop for the day - Indian Head. This popular spot is the most easterly point of the island, and showcases the beautiful coastline of Fraser Island. Have your camera ready here!

DAY 2

DAY 2: Get Up Early and Watch the Sunrise

Sunrise on Fraser Island

As the saying goes, ‘the early bird catches the worm,’ but in this case the early bird gets to see the most amazing sunrise! This is another Kodak moment, so don’t forget the camera!

Take A Walk Through The rainforest and Visit Central Station

Central Station, Fraser Island

After watching the sun come up, what better way to kick start your day than a little cardio (JKS, but the walk is awesome), walking through the rainforest and checking out Central Station.

FUN FACT: Did you know that Fraser Island is the only place in the world where a forest has grown on sand! That’s a BIG #BucketList tick!

Swim in The Stunning Lake McKenzie

Lake McKenzie, Fraser Island

Saving the best till last, it is finally time to take the plunge and swim in the stunning turquoise waters of Lake McKenzie! With an early start to the day and a big walk it’ fair to say you have earned yourself some chill time, and this is the place to do it.

Time to Head Back to The Mainland

Hervey Bay, Fraser Coast

If you were limited to just 48 hours, unfortunately, your time is now up! BUT the next time you find yourself along the Fraser Coast, make sure you stop by for a visit as there is so much more to see!
